Day 8 April 13,
2015
Big day today. It is
Jan’s birthday! She has been overwhelmed
at the “facebook” responses. On our way
to Canyon deChelly, AZ, Jan used her phone to check facebook. She was so happy to see everyone’s best
wishes.
Canyon deChelly is a beautiful canyon on the road alongside
the eastern side of Arizona. In the
canyon are Navajo homes and farms. They are
surrounded by beautiful red walls that climb 600’+. We found a trail that went from the top, zig sagging
its way to the bottom. There we saw some
of the farmland along the river and an ancient pueblo ruin. The canyon varied in width from a few
hundred feet to maybe a half a mile in some locations. In the bottom the temperature was about 5-8
degrees warmer, making this a great place for the residence to live. The residence had a ready supply of water
that is a wonderful thing out here in the dessert. Our climb and decent, even though a little
tough, had magnificent views of the walls.
The colors, because of the morning sun, showed deep reds on the unbelievably
smooth canyon surfaces.
