Green Gables here we come

After our walk we got ourselves together and headed to Cavendish, PEI.  This is the fictional home of “Anne of Green Gables”.  As we left the campground we were getting a few light sprinkles.  On the way we spotted a carwash and our car really needed it.  As we pulled on to the main road, guess what, it started to rain.  This won’t last long.  Arriving at the Green Gables site the rain continued and as we got to the line into the home the rain really came down.

The home was interesting.  It reminded me of some of the homes of my older relatives that I visited back in the 50’s.  For those of you that might remember “Cousin Ann”, Aunt Lucy, Aunt Emma, and Nina Jared’s. All of these homes were similarly decorated.  The tour was very interesting. The grounds were covered with lots of tourist’s.  We had an interesting conversation with some folks from Ottawa, nice retired folks.

As we drive through the countryside, we are fascinated with the beautiful farm land.  Potatoes are “king”.  Like the old company towns in the old days of the US, there are company communities built around the potato industry.  Also, we find it interesting that each community has at least one or more big churches.  Some stand out as we go by.

After leaving the Green Gables area, we went looking for some of the many lighthouses that line the coast.  They were well hidden.  We only found one at the back of a city park.  But on the way there we passed by a couple of fishing villages.  There boat houses and boats were nothing like we have in the south.
